Brunch café on a hill in Yongsan

You know how you usually find a cocoon up in a tree? Funny enough, that’s kind of how I felt climbing the hills of Yongsan to find Café COCOON. Not a tree, but a massive hill—vertically speaking, it’s the same concept. (San Francisco trained me for this exact moment; I just didn’t know it until now.)

I was welcomed by kind staff who looked past my sweating face and suggested I look at the menu. I had made it just in time before brunch was over. Though it sounded appetizing, I decided to order a latte. I half expected the latte art to be a cocoon, but it was a swan. Still skillful. Tasteful.

They have this beautiful set of ceiling lamps, which is not uncommon to Seoul, but it fit the concept so well. Round just like a cocoon. Wooden, soft grassy green, honey yellow hues all coming together as a complimentary palette.

The coffee even came in a brown mug atop a pastel green saucer. And the coffee? Well, it was the right temperature. I’m obsessed with coffees served at the right temperature now—it's a new standard that must be maintained.

While writing up this review, I was served a dove, leaf, and heart shaped cookie 🕊️💛

I’ve realized I’m a sucker for glass brick walls—and this place had an entire wall of them. I had to wait for a couple of people finishing brunch to get the shot I wanted.

I finally captured the glass bricks and enjoyed a chamomile tea (no caffeine after three). If you’re in Yongsan, I’d recommend coming before three to check out the brunch—preferably on an empty stomach.

I would’ve grabbed something if they had smaller bites.
